The FrequencerTM is a digitally controlled acoustic airway clearance device that promotes bronchial drainage by inducing vibrations in the chest wall of a patient. The device provides a gentler, less painful form of therapy for patients than the traditional “clapping” method of postural drainage therapy and is less demanding for physiotherapists responsible for providing this therapy.
The FrequencerTM is recommended for patients having respiratory ailments which involve defective mucociliary clearance as is typical in patients suffering from cystic fibrosis as well as chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, ciliary dyskinesia syndromes, asthma, muscular dystrophy, neuromuscular degenerative disorders, post-operative atelectasis and thoracic wall defects.
To generate the low frequency sound waves, The FrequencerTM uses a control unit and a transducer.
The control unit houses a digital frequency generator and a highly efficient amplifier. With its touch screen, it is very easy to select frequency level and treatment intensity.
Depending upon a patient’s needs, the transducer can apply an adjustable forcing frequency of between 20Hz and 65Hz. The transducer is designed to create a mechanical impulse to a rigid circular perimeter surrounding an acoustical compression chamber, while the acoustical wave is applied at lower pressure but spread over the entire surface contained within the chamber. The impulses are applied alternately and are transmitted differently through the surface and deep tissues of the chest. Low-energy-resonant vibrations penetrate deep into the chest to greatly reduce mucus viscosity and promote mucus flow.
The V2 model of the FrequencerTM uses single-patient permanent adapters.
The FrequencerTM requires no special training, is applied to one side of the body only, is competitively priced, and is well-suited for patients of all ages.
